Technology Committee 

Meeting    4-24-08

 

1.    Minutes from 4-9-08 meeting were approved

 

2.    David Jordan will prepare a new standard meeting Minutes format for next meeting.

 

3.    IT update –

 

Hahn Tran reports the consultant doing the actual new telephone system

installation has encountered technical problems in certain areas. Offices are being

(will be) relocated making it more difficult to complete new phone system

installation project. 

 

Training - VoIP system users training has been delayed until June 27.

Paul suggests using flex day to train faculty.

 

A new High Definition Video-conference system will be available by the end of June 2008. System consists of a large plasma screen. The system will allow for intra-district teleconferencing and is not intended for instruction purposes.

 

Day Care Center – Will be opened by June 8. 

 

 

4.    Shared Governance committee –

 

      David Jordan reports the governance committee evaluates the performance of other

      committees starting this school year (2007-2008). Next week, the committee will

      report the following: 1) Dates committees meet, 2) Committees accomplishments:

      tasks completed, key items covered in minutes, agenda items.

 

 

5.    Dave Jordan initiated discussions on the following topics (to be continued on the

following scheduled committee meeting): 

 

    How can the introduction of new technology projects be structured? 

    How can those projects be expedited?

    How would goals be prioritized?

    What is the accreditation group looking for?

 

       Maury Pearl discusses the best way to approach those topics:

 

    Focus on strategic planning

    Use subcommittees

    Follow Prop A as guideline

 

6.    Dave Jordan pointed out that there is no coordination between student success

initiatives (basic skills development) and technology implementation projects.

Paul – He suggests Dave Jordan should set up improvement goals and present college council with a series of technology projects to be implemented.

 

Maury Pearl suggests using the SLO model to establish improvement goals and ease structuring technology implementation projects.

 

 

7.   Paul wants to make a series of short video clips available as a library resource. There

      are 194 clips for a total of 13 hours of video in several topics: Oceanography, political

      science, Psychology, and other subjects. All clips are copyrighted, close captioned,

      and useful for DSPS students. Repository can be searchable by topic.

 

 

8.    All remaining agenda topics were tabled until next meeting on May 7, 2008.

 

 

9.    Meeting adjourned at 1:00 P.M.
